Chuck Af

About
Hi, I am a Magnet Theater-trained improviser and performer. I started my improv journey in 2017, and have fell in love with this art form. I consider myself an improv nerd, and can chat with you or your team about improv.
I specialize in Magnet Theater style improvisation - focused on grounded work, character, and relationships. I work with various types of improvisers with varying experience levels:
- giving improv beginners the confidence that they can do this
- helping non-native English speakers be more comfortable in scenes
- providing a creative outlet and safe space for introverts and shy folks
- promoting more LGBTQ+-identifying performers
- sharing personalized tips and constructive feedback to more intermediate students
- or simply creating a fun atmosphere for improv hobbyists to do reps!
As a performer of both improv and musical improv, my key strengths are: physicality, object work, emotions, specificity, character, stage pictures, status, group games, authenticity, being "you", plus a safe space. If you'd like to focus on any of these, I am more than happy to be your coach!
I also enjoy exploring various improv forms your team may be interested to try: monologue deconstruction / armando, monoscenes, spokane, slacker, evente, the flock, 2-person longer scenes, free form, the blackout.
Key Influences: Mick Napier's "Improvise", Will Hines "How to Be the Greatest Improviser"
For rates: as a newbie coach, I do not charge much per hour. I mostly just want to share my passion for this form, and helping anyone with their individual or group struggles. If you also just want to chat anything about improv or geek out about this form, I am also up for it! You can reach me at cia218@nyu.edu.
